***HEAT ADVISORY*** The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory. The Advisory is in effect from 12pm Tuesday and continues until 7pm Friday. Warm air temperature will combine with high humidity values resulting in feel like temperatures of 90°F to 100°+F. Emergency Management reminds our residents of the following important hot weather tips: • During hot weather seek SHADE from the sun, REST often, and HYDRATE with water (avoid beverages containing alcohol and caffeine). ▪︎ Check in on family and friends, especially those who require additional assistance during adverse weather consitions. ▪︎ Hot weather = high electrical demand. Please help conserve energy by turning off extra lights or televisions in an effort to prevent interruptions in the power grid. ▪︎ If you need a spot to beat the heat, the Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink has been activated as our cooling center. Residents seeking a place to cool off my do so in the bleachers between 9AM and 10PM daily while the advisory is in effect.
