A Message from the Town Manager

Welcome to the Town of Smithfield’s website and thank you for your interest in the Town.  I hope our website and Town staff provide you with all the resources needed to assist you.  Our employees are committed to excellence and service to our residents and businesses.

The Town Manager is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Town, responsible to the Town Council for the administration of all town affairs placed in the Manager’s charge by or under the Smithfield Town Charter. Among the duties: direct and supervise all town departments within his/her jurisdiction; and ensure that the laws and provisions of the Town Charter under his/her jurisdiction are faithfully executed; prepare and submit an annual budget; keep the Town Council fully advised as to the financial condition and future needs of the Town; make recommendations to the Town Council concerning the affairs of the Town; and perform such duties specified under the Town Charter and required by the Town Council.

The Town of Smithfield has been a progressing and thriving community rich in history since 1731 and is home to the prestigious Bryant University and headquarters to Fidelity Investments.  Our Town offers the uniqueness of what we love about small towns, rural farms and apple orchards, excellent schools, libraries, beaches, parks, and a vibrant business community.  The Town also offers numerous family activities and events that take place throughout the year such as the food truck and music events and the All Lit Up Christmas Parade.

Smithfield is a community focused on responsible planned growth which provides all the goods and services of a balanced suburban community.  The Town’s Vision Statement is to “enhance the quality of life in our community while honoring our history and building responsibly toward the future”.  Smithfield’s future depends on vision, hard work, and sensitive long-range planning to maintain its natural resources and guide its development.
