Updating Voter Registration

Before the Primary and General Elections this coming fall, we encourage residents to update their voter registration. This may include a change of name because of marital status or acquiring a Real ID, change of address, residency and mailing, and party affiliation.

Please note that if you voted in the most recent Presidential Preference Primary you are now affiliated with the party of the ballot you voted. It is the voter's responsibility to maintain/change their party affiliation.

Changes can be made online through the State of RI Voter Information site as well as in person at the Town Clerk's Office in the Town Hall. You can inquire about your voter information by contacting the Town Clerk's Office at 401-233-1001.

Voter ID

Voter ID is intended to strengthen the public's faith in the fairness of our elections by enabling poll workers to match a voter's face to the name they give at the polls.

When you vote at your polling place, poll workers will ask you to show a current and valid ID. Acceptable photo IDs include:

  • RI driver's license
  • U.S. passport
  • ID card issued by an educational institution in the United States
  • U.S. military identification card
  • State of Rhode Island or federal government-issued ID card
  • Government-issued medical card
