Dogs are required to be registered every April. A valid rabies certificate is required at the time of registration. Smithfield residents are allowed three (3) dogs per household.

Fees: Please refer to Chapter 126: Animals Ordinance

  • All dogs (Town): $8.00

Dog licenses may be obtained at the Smithfield Town Clerk’s office during normal business hours, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You may contact the Town Clerk’s Office at 401-233-1000, ext. 113, or contact our Animal Shelter at 401-233-1055.

Traditionally during the month of March, the Town of Smithfield holds a rabies clinic where dogs and cats can receive their rabies shot at reduced rates. Licenses for dogs may be obtained at the clinic. Dates, times, and other details will be placed in the Valley Breeze Observer and on the Town Calendar.

Kennel Licenses are renewed every March. The fee is $25.00.


Smithfield Dog Park

Individuals may register for a Smithfield Dog Park Membership through our Online Citizen Services portal. Memberships run from January 1st – December 31st.

If you do not have an existing account, you will be required to create one with your email address. You can then find the Dog Park Membership under the Town Clerk’s. The dog must be licensed with a community, disease free, parasite free, and proof of vaccinations are required to be uploaded. Individuals must also agree to abide by the rules of the Dog Park.
