Function

The Office of the Town Clerk is responsible for providing a number of services to the public. The Department consists of six major divisions: Town Council Records, Land Records Registry, Board of Canvassers, Registry of Vital Statistics, Probate Court, and Business Licenses. In addition to receiving, recording and issuing these documents, the Office is responsible for the maintenance, indexing and storage of all of these records for easy access by the public and other departments. The Town Clerk’s Department is the official repository for all ordinances, resolutions and official documents related to the government of the Town of Smithfield. The department is responsible for the authenticity of all legal documents.


PLEASE NOTE - UPDATING VOTER REGISTRATION

Before the Primary and General Elections this coming fall, we encourage Smithfield voters to update their voter registration. Changes may include name changes, address changes and party affiliation. 

Please note it's the voter's responsibility to update their party affiliation after voting in any primary held. Changes can be made online at State of RI Voter Information or in the Town Clerk's Office at the Town Hall. 

 


Notice - Solicitation Licenses

The following companies have a solicitation license  with the Town of Smithfield and are permitted to go door-to-door:

Power Home Remodeling Group - Valid through 09/19/2025

Trinity Solar - Valid through 05/16/2025

Renewal by Anderson - Valid through 03/06/2026

If anyone solicits that is not from one of the above three companies, please call the Smithfield Police Department at 401-231-2500.
